New Agent Training FAQs

1. How many classes are presently at Quantico?

There are 4 Classes of approximately 40 students each,--New Agent Class 1-07 (NAC 1-07) will graduate as of June 29th. FY 2001 graduates as of 05/09 total 84; Projected number of graduates for FY 2001 is 284. The next class, NAC 01-08 is expected to begin 09/24/2001 and will consist of 25 students.

2. How many new agents did we graduate in FY 2000?

There were 284 New Agent Trainees (NATs) who graduated in FY 2000.

3. Does everyone that enters NAT graduate?

No, FY 2000 saw 22 NATs, or 7%, fail to graduate. FY 2000 resulted in the resignation of 20 NATs; FY 2001 has resulted in 8 resignations to date.

4. What are the reasons that NATs fail to graduate?

The main reason NATs don't graduate is the deadly force policy, followed by the transfer policy, then PT related issues. Deadly Force and transfer are given most frequently as the reason NATs leave of their own volition. NATs whodemonstrate deficiencies in initiative, cooperativeness, conscientiousness, and good judgement, or have performance deficiencies are encouraged to resign or are dismissed.

5. How long is training and what is the curriculum?

NATs spend 16 weeks at Quantico undergoing 655 hours of instruction in Academics, PT/DT, and Pratical Exercises. They must pass 9 academic exams with a score of 85% or above. Beginning October 1, 2001, the curriculum was updated to include more emphasis on Tier 1 violations. Additionally, NATs now work a case from start to finish via the newly created Integrated Case System (ICS), which allows them to get an idea of what it is like to work a case in the field. NATs will complete ECs, 302s, inserts, and have file review.
