How many authorized trips home is a counselor allowed to take home
during a NA session?
Currently, a counselor is allowed 2 authorized
trips home during the National Academy session.
7. Should an NA counselor bring his/her
Bureau vehicle to the National Academy session?
This decision is controlled by the SAC
of the office from which the Special Agent counselor is traveling.
Having a Bureau vehicle available for use during the session allows
the counselor greater flexibility in assisting with certain activities
and requirements while serving, however, academy vehicles are available
for use in the event that it is not practical or allowed by field
office management.
8. How does the NA award slots to each
field office?
The NA works from a system which considers
the size of the field office, number of agencies, and number of
sworn officers within the division. With the recognized changes
in population movements and recent census figures, some reallocation
of slots has occurred. A study by the National Academy Unit regarding
the allocation of slots has been completed, however, no formal changes
have been implemented at this time.
9. Are all Legal Attaches awarded slots
for each National Academy session?
Each Legal Attache may nominate one candidate
to attend each NA session.
10. With the reduction of the National
Academy program to 10 weeks, what has been the impact on the program?
There have been no changes in the quality
of the NA program. The number of hours dedicated to academics and
physical training remain the same. Students still have many opportunities
to participate in recreational and enrichment activities.
