About the Academy Frequently Asked Questions
General Information
Support Employees Frequently Asked Questions

1. What training is available for support employees?

Various in-services are offered at the Academy for support employees. Some classes are open to all employees, while others have specific prerequisite requirements on who may attend the class. Employees apply through their Field Office Administration for the class. Usually when an in-service is offered, a specific number of slots are offered per Field Office. A career board at the field office is usually convened to determine who will attend the in-service.

2. How do I process a training request?

Complete an SF-182 and get it approved by the appropriate supervisors in your office (usually your direct supervisor and one higher-level official). If you work for an FBIHQ division, submit the form directly to the GETA office. If you work in a field office, give the form to your training technician, who will enter the information into the Bureau Personnel Management System (BPMS) Training Sub-System. A GETA specialist will approve the request and return it to you.

3. How do I apply for a new position?

When a posting occurs, it will state the criteria for applying, whether educational or experiential requirements. An employee then fills out the required forms, addresses the Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) for the job, and then submits the application.

4. Is training available for KSAs?

Yes. On the FBI's Internet website (http://www.fbi.gov/employment/support2.htm) there is information that give the specific guidelines on how to write KSA's. On the same website, there is also a sample KSA.
